Probably a saltwater tank, the freshwater fish won't last long, but no matter what kind of water you put a fish in, they will swim in it.

This is at an exhibit at Aquarama 2009 Singapore where marine clown fish and sea-horses are kept together with freshwater goldfish, guppies and gouramis from a company called GEX.

Here is a link from aquariacentral.com about the product developed in Japan that is an actual liquid that allows both types of fish to breath one type of water.

I don't know how this exact illusion is pulled off, but I know my father created a divided tank by installing a piece of glass horizontally from corner to corner.

When the glass was absolutely clear and the tank was filled to the top, you truly could not tell the divider was there. This sort of set up was great for still pics.

It was only after viewing for some time and noticing certain fish only came so far forward, and other fish only went so far back, that you began to realize something was up.

The human eye often lies to us, and tells our brain what we want to believe, not what we truly see.

We actually had an underwater hamster one time!

Kordon used to market a chemical product that allowed mixing of freshwater and saltwater fish. As I recall, it did so by changing the way osmoregulation worked. The information in the link looks like the same kind of thing. The product failed in the marketplace. I assume that it failed longterm in the aquarium, too.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but this isn't that surprising.(and then again it is)

Many fish can be adapted. In fact, it is speculated that guppies and other livebearers spread by being able to tolerate saltwater. In fact, I think that a guppy can survive at 150% of normal ocean salinity.

Saltwater fish can also be adapted to freshwater. "Striper"(striped bass) now prized among lake fishermen is actually a saltwater fish.

Finally, notice that the saltwater fish are all clustered on the bottom and that the freshwater fish are all near the top. Saltwater is denser than freshwater, and if not "mixed" to distribute salinity it would seem that the saltier water is on the bottom(like layering alcohols in a cocktail).

No problem on dredge here. Any activity is good activity. Follow this link as it will explain what/why and how.

Pretty neat. Have to wonder if whatever they are doing is allowing the fish to survive but would there be long term side affects. They don't appear to be in distress in the videos though.
