New hood for Reef tank 4 Months ago

The new leds on my reef tank lit up my entire living room, blindingly!
Here is the new hood i built. Kind of gaudy, lol. But blocks the light very well!

Wow!!! That is cool! It really looks awesome back lit like that. I am going to show that to my hubby. I am still hoping to set up a big tank this year and it will be a reef one.
Where did you get the stained glass??

Gema- No, not near as bright. Yeah! No more blindness!!
Michelle- Its Faux stained glass. I found a tutorial online. It is panels of acrylic. You take a bottle of school glue and add black acrylic paint to it. Shake well then trace the lines of your design using the glue bottles tip. This leaves you with raised lines. Let it dry over night. Next day take 1 Tablespoon of school glue that dries clear, add 2-3 drops of acrylic color of your choice. When painting i dabbed it instead of brushing it. Let dry, add second coat. It didn't say to seal it, but i sprayed it with glossy sealer and it looked more like glass.
For my pattern I just looked all over online to find designs I liked and then incorporated them all together on paper. Put the paper under the acrylic and you have a pattern.
Very easy and alot cheaper than glass! I was also afraid of the weight of glass and if the doors got slammed.

That's cool! Pretty smart. I will have to keep that in mind. Much smarter than glass and way prettier than plain wood. Love it!
